The first thing to determine if the water seems too hot is how hot the water actually is   I would suggest  measuring the water temperature - a meat or laser thermometer will work - The water in the tank should be 60 degrees to prevent Legionnaires' disease - So the water at the tap should be around 55 - 60 degrees .Or you can book online and I can measure the temperature for you

A faulty thermostat can cause the water to overheat sometimes even boil - I can replace that for you if you book online below

If you need the temperature less than 60 degrees - the best thing to do is contact a plumber - you may aleady have a tempering valve which he can adjust to lower the temerature or he can install one for you. A tempering valve looks something like this

The first thing to check is make sure the Hot water switch has not been turned off by mistake usually down is on the images below show hot water switches in the on position    What you can do

Turn the switch on - I have included two images  that illustate the on postion

it will usually take about 3 hours to heat up but you can tell in about an hour and a half if it is working. If it's still not working it may be a power company issue

What you can do

Check with your neighbours to see if they have hot water or ring your power company to see if there are any power issues in your area. If its not the switch or power company issue you will need to

If the water is luke warm could be an electrical or plumbing issue.

               What you can check

Sometimes this can be caused by a plumbing fault - a failed ajax or pressure valve - for low pressure cylinders they usually have a pipe out the roof of the house - if the ajax valve has failed you will find the water will continually flow out the pipe and you need to call a plumber if its a high pressure tank a valve on the top of the cylinder may have failed in this case you will water continually flowing out of the cylinder to the drain - This will also cause your power bill to increase

Sometimes even though the element is failed it will still heat the water a bit and cause it to be warm - in this case you may hear some crackling
